Fountain Pumps

If you have an ornamental fountain or pond that you want to turn into a garden feature then you will need some kind of fountain pump to make the water flow through it as you like. In some cases, if you are buying a fountain ready made from a store or online shop then it may well come with its own pump. In others you may need to buy your pump separately. This is usually the case if you need fountain pumps for a pond to make the water ‘move’.

Over time you may also find that fountain pumps wear out or need replacement. In most cases you won’t need to scrap your old fountain if this is what is connected to the pump and buy a new one. You may well simply be able to buy a new pump and fit it to your fountain to get it working again. Water features may also need a new pump or you may simply choose to try a different one to get an alternative effect.

Fountain pumps can do various things with water. If you are fitting one to an ornamental fountain then they will cycle the water through its system and make it run where it should. Water feature pumps may do different things depending on the pump you try and deciding what you want here may be important from the start.

So, for example, you can buy fountain pumps that spray water up in the air. Some will vary the spray they make and some will make a fixed spray that either runs continuously or that works on a timed basis. Some prefer to use their pumps to get other effects such as waterfalls and natural springs.

The size and power given by fountain pumps may also vary. The size of your fountain, bird bath or water feature may play a part in the pump that you choose. Some pumps are designed for smaller features; some can cope with larger areas of water. Many people also like to buy pumps that can have other effects added to them.

One of the most common added extras with fountain pumps are light sources. These fit on to the pumps and shine a light through the water so that it can take on one or more colours as it is pumped through its cycle. This can add a pretty effect, especially in the evening or at night when regular water may not be visible.
